The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
(NOAA) would like to conduct an open briefing with industry on the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES) – R Series. A GOES-R Industry Day has been scheduled for March 4, 2003, 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM at the University of Maryland, University College Inn and Conference Center, University Boulevard at Adelphi Road in
Adelphi, MD. Following the plenary session the government will give industry the opportunity for one-on-one meetings to discuss RFI inputs and any other topics industry may want to

Until the early 90's, disk drives were bulky, noisy, power-hungry, expensive and
not very capacious. Magnetic tape storage was an order of magnitude cheaper
and, despite slower access and transfer times, continued as the undisputed
medium for backup and archiving. But with the recent introduction of low cost
ATA disk storage and the development of serial storage interfaces, disk is
becoming an attractive alternative to tape, suggesting the possibility of disk as at
least partial replacement for tapes in IT environments.
It is not clear, however, what the appropriate role for disk is in large
multi-petabyte storage systems. These systems generally include requirements for both online
and near-line data, as well as requirements for offline backup, disaster recovery,
and long term data viability. While low cost high performance disks offer attractive
solution possibilities, they also have potential liabilities that need to be
understood. This workshop will examine these through talks and discussions
organized into sessions. Access
